Common Supply Pipes

What is a Common Supply Pipe (CSP)?
A Common Supply Pipe is a shared pipe that runs through a row of properties, either in the garden or under the property itself, with one main stop tap and a supply tee coming off the CSP to feed each property.

Problems with a CSP
CSP were laid when water demand was a lot lower than it is today, the main pipe is smaller and usually made from lead, copper or steel. This can cause low flow, as someone draws water it affets the flow to any other property.
This can cause showers to cut out and combi boilers to run cold due to the low flow.

How can I get my own single supply?
Most water providers offer a lead replacement scheme, where they will replace or fit a new pipe to the main if you get a new pipe laid within your boundary. This is also the case when your supply is on a CSP or below the minimum standard litres per minute.
You can apply to come off a shared CSP, sign up to the lead replacement scheme or make enquiries about your water supply.
