Common Supply Pipes
What is a Common Supply Pipe (CSP)?
A Common Supply Pipe is a shared pipe that runs through a row of properties, either in the garden or under the property itself, with one main stop tap and a supply tee coming off the CSP to feed each property.
Problems with a CSP
CSP were laid when water demand was a lot lower than it is today, the main pipe is smaller and usually made from lead, copper or steel. This can cause low flow, as someone draws water it affets the flow to any other property.
This can cause showers to cut out and combi boilers to run cold due to the low flow.
How can I get my own single supply?
Most water providers offer a lead replacement scheme, where they will replace or fit a new pipe to the main if you get a new pipe laid within your boundary. This is also the case when your supply is on a CSP or below the minimum standard litres per minute.
You can apply to come off a shared CSP, sign up to the lead replacement scheme or make enquiries about your water supply.
The steps to coming off a Common Supply Pipe
Enquire and apply to your water provider about coming off a shared supply. Once this is confirmed Vitrix can quote for the work to be carried out.
Once the quote is accepted we will carry out the work to lay a new water supply to WRAS standards and present a WIAPs certificate to you, which I turn you will present to the water provider.
Your water provider will connect the new supply up and we will return and swap your pipes over onto your new supply. We will then cap off your old supply as close to the tee for the CSP as possible. All of this will be included and explained in your quote.
You can start to enjoy a single uninterrupted water supply in the knowledge the flow wont be reduced by the usage of others on your row.
